BORN ELECTRIC.

THE LIFEDRIVE CONCEPT.

The BMW i3 and BMW i8 are based on the forward-thinking LifeDrive design principle. LifeDrive consists of two horizontally separated, independent modules for the body. The aluminium Drive module forms the chassis and includes the battery, engine and basic structural and crash functions. The Life module is the first one ever to use carbon-fibre reinforced plastic and combines lightweight construction with a very high level of crash safety.

THE SPORTS CAR OF THE FUTURE.

BMW i8.

Another intoxicating chapter is about to be written in the success story of the BMW i8, as the updated version of the 2+2-seater – the world’s highest selling plug-in hybrid sports car since its launch in 2014 - was launched in 2017. The new BMW i8 Coupe is based on the LifeDrive vehicle architecture with aluminium chassis and carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cell. The further optimised BMW eDrive technology allows a noticeable increase in dynamic performance, operating range and the amount of driving possible using purely the electric drive system.

  • Engine
A streamlined body, striking dynamic shape and low weight. BMW i8 is an aerodynamically optimized car with features that ensure maximum dynamics and optimum efficiency. This extends to almost every feature of the car’s exterior, from its LED rear lights to its alloy wheels which minimize turbulence.

BMW Laserlight is a highly efficient lighting technology with a high-beam range double than of headlights containing conventional technology. In the laser headlight, the beams of light are bundled together to attain a luminous intensity that is ten times greater than conventional light sources such as halogen, xenon or LED. BMW Laserlight has a visual range of up to 600m, twice that of a headlight with conventional light technology.

These values are provisional figures and have not yet been confirmed.

The driving range depends on a variety of factors, especially personal driving behaviour, selected route, weather conditions, usage of heating/cooling and preconditioning.

The figures for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption depend on the wheel and tyre sizes selected. Consumption data is determined in accordance to the ECE driving
cycle.
