BORN ELECTRIC.THE LIFEDRIVE CONCEPT.

The BMW i3 and BMW i8 are based on the forward-thinking LifeDrive design principle. LifeDrive consists of two horizontally separated, independent modules for the body. The aluminium Drive module forms the chassis and includes the battery, engine and basic structural and crash functions. The Life module is the first one ever to use carbon-fibre reinforced plastic and combines lightweight construction with a very high level of crash safety.

BMW i3.

The BMW i3 shows the way ahead to a new era of mobility. It is recognised all over the world as a symbol of driving pleasure, sustainability and intelligent connectivity in the urban traffic environment, which is why it has become the best-selling electric car in the premium compact segment. The recipe for success of the BMW i3 has now been further improved, thanks not just to refreshing styling accents, cutting-edge equipment features and new digital services.

With a higher output, model-specific chassis technology, noticeably more dynamic driving qualities and design features all of its own, the new BMW i3s generates a particularly intense blend of the unrivalled sporty driving pleasure associated with electric cars from the BMW Group. By offering a premium-quality, all-electric driving experience, meaning zero local emissions, together with a whole new level of connectivity technology, the i3s represents the future of urban mobility.

THE SPORTS CAR OF THE FUTURE.

BMW i8.

Another intoxicating chapter is about to be written in the success story of the BMW i8, as the updated version of the 2+2-seater – the world’s highest selling plug-in hybrid sports car since its launch in 2014 - was launched in 2017. The new BMW i8 Coupe is based on the LifeDrive vehicle architecture with aluminium chassis and carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cell. The further optimised BMW eDrive technology allows a noticeable increase in dynamic performance, operating range and the amount of driving possible using purely the electric drive system.

A streamlined body, striking dynamic shape and low weight. BMW i8 is an aerodynamically optimized car with features that ensure maximum dynamics and optimum efficiency. This extends to almost every feature of the car’s exterior, from its LED rear lights to its alloy wheels which minimize turbulence.
Its unique architecture allows the BMW i8 to distribute weight optimally across both axles. The electric motor in the front, the petrol engine at the rear and high-voltage batteries that run along the centre console ensure ideal weight distribution and outstanding, sporty handling.
The passenger compartment of the BMW i8 is made of a carbon fiber composite. This is up to 50% lighter than steel and approximately 30% lighter than aluminium, yet with the same highly-stable, crash-safe material properties.
Pressing the eDrive button adapts the BMW i8 for purely electric driving. This is possible in the COMFORT and ECO PRO modes. In the COMFORT mode with eDrive, the BMW i8 drives without support from the engine. Purely electrical driving at speeds of up to 120 km/h is possible with eDrive.
The BMW i8 gives you the power of choice – and control. It offers four driving modes to satisfy the most avid driver’s desire for efficient power:
• Comfort – A balance between sport performance, driving chassis comfort and fuel efficiency
• Sport – Offering the sportier eBoost function and chassis and steering setting
• Eco Pro – Supporting greater efficiency in both all-electric and hybrid modes
BMW Laserlight is a highly efficient lighting technology with a high-beam range double than of headlights containing conventional technology. In the laser headlight, the beams of light are bundled together to attain a luminous intensity that is ten times greater than conventional light sources such as halogen, xenon or LED. BMW Laserlight has a visual range of up to 600m, twice that of a headlight with conventional light technology.

These values are provisional figures and have not yet been confirmed.

The driving range depends on a variety of factors, especially personal driving behaviour, selected route, weather conditions, usage of heating/cooling and preconditioning.

The figures for fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption depend on the wheel and tyre sizes selected. Consumption data is determined in accordance to the ECE driving
cycle.
