Park Distance Control
Parking and manoeuvring in confined spaces are made easy for you. Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear uses ultrasound to measure the distance to any obstacles that may be present, warns you acoustically and shows how far any obstacles are away in the Control Display . The system switches on below a distance of 80 cm when the vehicle is moving and below 30 cm when stationary.
Rear View Camera
With the Rear View Camera you have everything conveniently in sight at the back too. A wide-angle lens depicts every obstacle in fine detail on the Control Display in colour and from the optimum perspective. Interactive lane lines indicate whether the parking space is large enough for the vehicle and make the actual parking operation easier. When you’re manoeuvring with a trailer, too, the Rear View Camera provides support via the extended zoom function. So you’ll never overlook anything again.
The Parking assistant including linear guidance parks the vehicle completely automatically, parallel or perpendicular to the street. The system works by measuring potential spaces while driving past them at a low speed. It takes over the steering, leaving you to select the correct gear and accelerate or brake. The system provides instructions to the Control Display and acoustic signals for further assistance during the parking manoeuvre. If the driver parks manually without the help of the Parking assistant, Active Park Distance Control (PDC) offers additional protection against damage with the Lateral parking aid.
Surround View includes the camera-based functions Rear view camera, Panorama View, Top View and 3D View. The cameras in the exterior mirrors as well as at the front and rear of the vehicle allow for a 360° all-around view. In addition to the simple depiction of the driving space to the rear, Top View offers the driver a look over the door and the lane area to the car sides for more convenient manoeuvring. In 3D View, a computer generated 3D view is shown simultaneously, for an even better overview when parking. Panorama View makes navigating in areas with low visibility, such as driveways or confusing intersections, safer. The driver can switch between the three functions Top View, Panorama View and 3D View. The camera systems are activated when the car is put into reverse or the PDC button or Panorama View button is pressed. The images captured by the cameras are shown on the Control Display.
Remote Control Parking
The Remote Control Parking assistance system enables your BMW to do the parking for you. After you’ve already got out of the vehicle, it parks itself by moving forward into, or reversing out of, a tight parking space or garage. You simply press the BMW display key to activate the remote-controlled parking function from outside the vehicle. The entire parking procedure is monitored by Park Distance Control (PDC), the Parking assistant and the Surround View sensors. During the parking procedure the driver can bring the vehicle to a controlled stop if necessary. Once parked, the engine can be switched off via the key. When it's time to move on, the engine can also be restarted via the key.
Stay relaxed throughout your journey. Now you can rely on the BMW Personal CoPilot Driver Assistance from BMW ConnectedDrive. They manoeuvre you through the jams, keep you at a safe distance when necessary and react with lightning speed in hazardous situations. Enjoy a feeling of safety in your BMW.
Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go
Keeps a safe distance, so you can relax. Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go including radar-based approach control warning with Brake Activation provides you with effective support at all times. Radar sensors permanently scan the carriageway, adapting your speed and maintaining your distance from the vehicle ahead. When the road is clear again, the system accelerates automatically. And, thanks to approach control warning, you can enjoy a safe drive in any situation – even when Cruise Control is not currently activated. If the vehicle brakes sharply, it first warns you with an optical and then an acoustic signal. If you do not respond by braking, your BMW will react and brakes for you.
Traffic Jam Assistant
Lean back and let your BMW handle the road. The Traffic jam assistant takes away the strain when you’re in monotonous situations on the motorway. When you’re travelling in heavy traffic at speeds of up to 60 km/h, the system allows you to “float along” with the other traffic and stay relaxed as you pass through the congestion. It automatically maintains the desired distance from the vehicle in front, regulates your speed independently – even braking down to a standstill – and actively shares the steering. Your vehicle is thus able to help you stay in lane, as long as you keep at least one hand on the steering wheel.
Steering and Lane Control Assistant
The Steering and lane control assistant represents another milestone on the path to achieving highly automated driving. The Steering and lane control assistant incl. Traffic jam assistant can be activated to support the driver in monotonous traffic situations. Between 0 and 210 km/h the system steers the vehicle automatically and always keeps the vehicle in the middle of the lane. The cutting-edge steering function uses multiple area surveillance radar systems and a stereo camera. The system positions itself using the edge-of-lane markers and the vehicle in front, if applicable. It automatically maintains the desired distance from the vehicle ahead and regulates the car's speed down to a standstill, as well as providing active steering support.
Reacts precisely to every hazard: In a critical situation, Active Protection initiates measures to protect you such as tightening the seat belts, placing the seats upright and closing the windows and sunroof. After an accident, automatic braking can bring the vehicle to a standstill, thus preventing or reducing the likelihood of follow-on collisions. In addition, the Attentiveness assistant recommends breaks whenever there are any symptoms of fatigue to prevent hazards arising in the first place.
Lane Departure Warning
Stay on course. The Lane Departure Warning including camera-based Collision Warning registers lane markings at a distance of 50 metres and beyond a speed of roughly 70 km/h. As soon as you drive over the lane markings at the left and right without activating your indicators, the camera-based system warns you by gently vibrating the steering wheel. Camera-based Collision Warning detects vehicles ahead and warns you if the gap ahead becomes too short or if there is a looming risk of collision. Therefore, you can then react in time to avoid accidents.
Lane Change Warning
Your BMW looks out for you. When another vehicle is approaching at high speed from behind or is in your blind spot, the Lane Change Warning helps to appraise the situation correctly. If there is already a vehicle in the neighbouring lane, radar sensors warn you by means of a symbol in the exterior mirror. If you then operate the indicator, the steering wheel vibrates and the symbol flashes up.
Driving Assistant combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and Collision Warning. The Approach and Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation warns of collisions with vehicles or pedestrians at speeds of between 10 and 60 km/h and brakes in an emergency. Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and issues a warning by vibrating the steering wheel whenever there is a threat of leaving the lane unintentionally at speeds above approx. 70 km/h. If the indicator is activated, meaning that a change of lane is intended, no warning is given. In addition to Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning, Driving Assistant Plus also contains Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go Functions and the Traffic jam assistant, which takes charge of the distance from the vehicle ahead and steering up to a speed of 60 km/h, thus increasing driving safety and comfort.
BMW Head-Up Display
Always know what turn to take next. And that’s not all. While you concentrate on the road, the full-colour BMW Head-Up Display projects all the data relevant to your journey directly into your line of sight: this includes information such as current speed, collision warnings, Speed Limit Info or control messages. Without having to constantly switch your gaze from road to instrument panel, you travel in greater safety and comfort.
See what’s coming sooner. With Side View you can “peek around the corner” at blind junctions or exits while your line of sight is still actually obstructed. Two cameras built into the front wheel arches enable you to observe crossing traffic. You can see the video image in the Control Display and thus keep an eye on everything.
Speed Limit Info
Speed Limit Info incl. no-overtaking indicator shows you the current speed restriction as well as any details of overtaking bans that may apply in your instrument panel or in the Head-Up Display if fitted. A special camera also captures all the relevant traffic signs. A camera mounted in the interior mirror correctly identifies any additional pictographic signs and shows them on the instrument panel or the Head-Up Display. You can therefore devote your full attention to the road and other road users.
BMW Night Vision
A revolution in safe driving at night: BMW Night Vision with Dynamic Light Spot makes people and larger animals in the dark recognisable in thermal imaging – even at a significant distance – and illuminates them selectively. As a result, you get a particularly clear view of everything that you shouldn’t miss at night. Should a critical situation arise, a warning is shown in the display and in the BMW Head-Up Display . In the event of acute danger, a blinking red symbol (animal or person) is displayed. An acoustic warning is also heard and the brakes are primed for optimum responsiveness.
BMW Laser Light
The laser headlights generate a particularly bright, pure white light as well as providing a high-beam range of 600 metres, double that of the LED headlights. BMW Laserlight, which had its production-model world premiere in the BMW i8, provides a high-beam range of 600 metres. Compared to the already extraordinarily powerful LED headlights , this signifies a doubling of the range. The risk of dazzling oncoming or preceding road users is reliably excluded by the integrated BMW Selective Beam and anti-dazzle High Beam Assistant. The tiny laser diodes generate a pure-white, extremely bright light. The laser diodes and reflectors are very compact in design, low in weight and low in power requirement, with energy efficiency exceeding that of the already highly efficient LED headlights by around 30 per cent.
More light means more safety. The High-Beam Assistant automatically takes care of raising and dipping the beam when you’re driving your BMW at night. The camera installed close to the interior mirror monitors the traffic situation and reacts immediately to any light sources at distances of up to 1,000 metres away. Depending on the visibility, the system decides when the headlights should be switched to high beam.
BMW Selective Beam
BMW Selective Beam makes night-time driving even more pleasant and safe for you. It provides excellent visibility in the dark without dazzling other drivers. The system detects other road-users and selectively excludes them from the high-beam headlight distribution. Beam ranges of 400 m ensure early detection of risks.
