BMW CONNECTED DRIVE.
ConnectedDrive brings together all the innovative services and technologies offered by the BMW Group to link the driver, vehicle and surroundings and make the journey a memorable experience and the vehicle more responsive to the driver`s needs. In the early 1970s, as a pioneer in the field of vehicle electronics, BMW begins to develop technology and innovations that provide drivers with information on their exterior, thereby improving active safety. Key milestones in the development process are chassis control systems such as ABS (in 1979), Automatic Stability Control and Traction (ASC+T in 1989) and Dynamic StabilityControl (DSC in 1999). Over the years, BMW engineers strove hard to improve interaction between the drivers and their surroundings. As a result of their work, the company has now a significant advantage over its competitors’ products. After launching the first on-board computer with exterior temperature display in 1980 and the world’s first Park Distance Control system in 1991, BMW introduces the first integrated navigation system in Europe in 1994. In 1995, BMW is the first manufacturer to offer an on-board TV and, in 2001, it launches the first web-based vehicle portal in the shape of BMW Online. In 2004, it is the first company to offer a fully integrated iPod interface and, in 2008, it begins to provide free Internet access from the vehicle. ConnectedDrive systems deliver the very highest level of infotainment services.
